I know firsthand how scary it can be to reach out for help and let someone in on your struggles. It can feel devastating when an area of your life feels like it's not working. The guilt and overwhelm that comes when your attempts to make changes are short lived. My role as a therapist is to support you through the ebbs and flows of life as well as provide you a trustworthy therapeutic relationship to work through past and present experiences or stuck points in relationships that are keeping you from feeling content and well.
My empathetic, playful approach assists my clients in feeling heard and comfortable within our therapeutic relationship. I will help you understand your history, experiences and how to get to know yourself. With the help of mindfulness strategies and learning how to support your physical body, you will begin to feel more present and grounded so you can feel more fulfilled.
I work with children, utilizing a child centered, play therapy approach, teens and young adults who are struggling with anxiety, a lack of clarity, decision paralysis, life transitions and relationship/peer struggles. I have also worked with eating disorders and body image distress across different settings. Additionally, I have experience working with children and teens on the Autism Spectrum.
Marissa earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at Antioch University.
Marissa is available to see clients in person in our office in Redondo Beach, CA or via telehealth.
My favorite part of the therapeutic process is…
Feeling honored to be a part of my clients journeys! I, too, learn from you and it feels special to be a witness to the revelations and growth that take place in therapy.
A therapeutic tool I find particularly effective is…
Connecting to and learning about your body's needs and the sensations that follow your emotions. I can be an over thinker and overly reliant on my mind. Once I learned how to calm my body physically, my mind could follow. Remembering to tend to your body's needs (hunger, tension, rest) can be a game changer in feeling better mentally.
My favorite way to spend a day off is…
Having a slow morning, making or grabbing a coffee with a friend, walking my fluffy dog Hemingway (he will be impatiently waiting) then making dinner at home and ending the night with a good show.
Meet Hemingway!
He will sometimes pop up in virtual sessions and say hello!
